DefeXtiles
DefeXtiles is a textile fabrication technique that produces thin and flexible fabrics on standard 3D printers. The method controls under-extrusion so that small globs form with fine strands between them. The resulting periodic gaps give a woven appearance, breathability, flexibility and stretch, even with rigid materials such as polylactic acid. The fabric is printed perpendicular to the print bed, so pleated, curved and complex shapes can be made. Applications include garments, tangible interfaces and toys.
DefeXtiles Textile Fabrication by Jack Forman was recognized as an innovative illustration of fashion design by the A' Design Award & Competition. DefeXtiles Textile Fabrication earned the Silver A' Design Award in Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design in 2021. The A' Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design award that celebrates superior design of structural fabric, engineered cloth, smart textiles, technical textiles, woven fabric, jacquard fabric, tapestries and more.
